If there was ever a kid who hated tutoring…that would have been me.
At 16 years old, my head in the clouds, I didn’t want additional work! However, in just a few weeks, I found that a personalized tutor could pinpoint my weaknesses and strengths in a way I could never do on my own. A few months later, I had increased more than 400 points on my entrance exam, getting a practically perfect score that allowed me to attend the University of my dreams—UCLA!
After attaining my B.A., M.Ed. and Teaching Credential at UCLA, I am now getting my PhD at the University of Glasgow. I have tutored for more than 12 years, teaching English, math, Latin, history, and science, as well as tutoring the ACT, SAT, ISEE, college essay applications—you name it! Wherever you come from, and wherever you're going, it is my privilege to help you set your goals and find the right tools for making each of YOUR dreams become a reality.
I have been tutoring for over 12 years in four different tutoring companies, as well as creating my own private tutoring services. From my widely varied experience with different methods and students of varied ages and backgrounds, I now have a full repertoire of strategies to motivate students and greatly increase their knowledge and understanding, as well as boost their grades and test scores.
I have also been a certified teacher in the classroom for over five years, which better enables me to help students with their homework and projects. Having been trained in a master's degree and teacher certification program based in the classroom, I fully understand what teachers expect of their students and can help youth of all ages achieve these expectations.
Having tutored both adults and college students, I also have experience of making information accessible and engaging for all ages, as well as preparing younger students for assignments and texts they will encounter at a university.
Having worked in both individual, small group, and large group settings, I am flexible with working in any environment. However, my personal experience has found that students need individualized strategies and methods for extending and deepening their knowledge. Therefore, I will use key curriculum but will always tailor it to each student's needs! I can make your learning projects and assignments based on visual, aural, kinesthetic, and tactile elements, or even a combination of all these learning styles!
Moreover, my experience with classical education allows me to easily maneuver and integrate multiple subjects if desired, so that students can find the connections between topics. I make sure to ask students lots of questions and then prove to me with evidence that they have understood the lesson, and I also have students ask me questions so that they feel absolutely confident at tackling assignments on their own.
As students continue to progress with their sessions with me, I push them to be independent until they no longer need my help, and are so advanced that they can tutor their friends as well!
