My background

I have been teaching for over a decade, from early years students all the way up to postgraduate students. Whatever the age, my philosophy is to foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding so that no question is silly and we can develop strategies and ways of accessing learning to suit every individual. I prefer to use multi-sensory learning strategies where possible, and I use my background in performance and theatre directing to find different ways to support my students to access learning and literature. I promise Shakespeare is fun and language is magical!

Experience

I currently teach early years acting, singing and dancing skills, incorporating Early Years Foundation Stage English and PE. I also teach LAMDA and Trinity syllabus acting exams in school to 14-16 year olds. I have experience teaching acting skills in a group setting and one-to-one/one-to-two both online and in person, at stage schools, in schools, and on the MA course at an acting conservatoire. As a private tutor I also currently tutor EYFS, KS1 and KS2 English and Maths, including children with ASD and SpLD; lower KS2 full curriculum; KS3, KS4 and KS5 English; and KS5 History, all one-to-one. I have tutored English up to postgraduate level, both literary analysis and essay skills. I have volunteered at a primary special school, working with pupils with physical and neurological disabilities, and profound and multiple learning disabilities. I have worked with students aged 3 all the way up to adult learners.

Qualifications

I have a master's degree in English from the University of Oxford, and a first class undergraduate degree in Ancient World from University College London. I have a level 5 TEFL certificate, and I am currently working on a level 2 diploma in Special Educational Needs and Disability teaching to expand my strategies for working with children with ASD, ADHD and SpLD, as well as PNI and PMLD.
