I am a mathematician by training and taught Maths in a Further Education College for 3 years. I moved on from that setting about 2½ years ago and am now an itinerant & online Maths Tutor to young people and children at all levels up to and including GCSE Level. I work largely with those who either struggle with Maths at school or who’ve dropped out of school altogether, but also with more confident and aspirational students who want to be stretched. On a more intermittent basis, I am employed as a marker of 11+ exam papers and as an Invigilator by the boys’ grammar school in the city where I live.
My principal working role is to prepare my tutees for either their GCSE Maths exam or their 11-Plus & SATS exams. But I am also employed in an intervention capacity, helping those who are struggling with Maths to ‘catch up’. As a teacher I learnt the value of making Maths interesting to learners by applying it to relevant situations in real life, by trying to earth it in their world, by using quality resources & by making it as much fun as possible (I love Magic Maths). I am patient and have a heart for those who are under-confident - either in themselves or in their mathematical ability.
Overall I regard myself as amply qualified academically, from my current work as a private Maths tutor, and through my experience as a teacher, to offer my services as a Maths tutor. I consider myself to be approachable, conscientious and highly affirming - qualities that are central to what I believe successful tutoring entails. I am, at present, widely available during the week and on Saturdays. With that in mind, I would love to hear from anyone who is interested in Maths tuition so as to explore that possibility; I hope I may be given that chance!
