My background

I am a theatre director and teacher. I believe in doing everything possible to level the playing field and provide accessible routes to opportunities for children from every background.

Every child learns differently and I think it’s my job to work out how to best support them and take the fear out of learning by offering consistent, fun and clear support. The best moments of my career have been seeing students get into the school or university of their choice or achieve results they never thought they could and watching the world open up for them.

Experience

I have trained professionally, securing a First Class Honours BA in Theatre and Performance from Goldsmiths University and subsequently an MA in Directing for Theatre from St Mary's Twickenham, also to First Class standard.

I have demonstrable experience of working with young people and it is absolutely the foundation on which my practice is built (and is always the highlight of my week). I worked as a production assistant at Brighton College, directing and teaching the performance elements of GCSE/A-Level modules to 100% A*-A standard across both examination cohorts (over 40 students.), as well as assistant directing their main school production. I was a Practioner-In-Residence at Colfes School London, again facilitating rehearsals of the more practical modules of the syllabus and running workshops on relevant practitioners in order to prepare pupils for examinations. I often covered rehearsals and ran separate workshops and clinics on examination practice.

I have also regularly privately tutored Drama and English from primary to A-Level standard. I currently work for Charlotte Hyde tutoring, tutoring English KS2 and running 7+ and 8+ revision sessions.

I have worked at Identity School of Acting for the last few years, teaching adult students, who mostly have not has access to the private school system, how to best analyse and deconstruct dramatic texts and self-direct themselves in order to best prepare them for auditions and opportunities in professional contexts and further conservatoire training. Students have gone on to establish careers in film, tv, theatre and radio. I am about to lead their first module for Radio Drama and direct a showcase of monologues and duologues, finding thirty select pieces of text that best present a diverse cohort for further work in the professional sector.

During my time at the Orange Tree I also ran the Youth Group, creating theatre with 7-9 year-olds and the 0ver 60s in the community. I am fully aware of the demands of a school environment, both intellectually and practically, as well as the need for staff to maintain scrupulously efficient systems and records while delivering results. .
