My background

After graduating from UCL in 2013, I completed my CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teaching for Adults) and soon after travelled to Malaysia to teach a group of recent graduates. I have continued to teach since then, with stints working in journalism and advertising. As well as teaching, I am a keen writer and enjoy sharing this aspect of myself with students.

Experience

I have worked as an English Teacher for a number of years, from working at the Japan Women's University in Tokyo, to teaching English Literature at the Yangon International School, each role has provided me with opportunities to learn and grown within the profession. Working with younger learners taught me to remain patient in challenging situations, working with adults helped me to deepen my knowledge of topics and texts, each role cultivated a deeper sense of compassion and desire to help others. The range of experience I’ve acquired has further taught my how to adapt lessons according to the need of each learner. Knowing how to plan and when to deviate from structure is an essential part of effective teaching.

After working abroad, I worked for Tutor House for a number of years where I gained valuable experience teaching private classes in the humanities subjects. Most recently, I've worked as a Supply Teacher and Cover Supervisor in various state schools across Cambridge. This has helped my professional development as I learnt to manage larger class sizes, that I wasn't exposed to in language schools.

Though English is my primary subject, I have experience teaching English, History, Geography and Philosophy and as a keen learner myself, am always looking for ways I can improve and develop as a teacher.
