I am an English Literature student at Durham University.
I am an English Literature undergraduate at Durham University, and the opportunity to work as a tutor excites me immensely. What I find most appealing in teaching is how it doesn’t set out to find a single, unified truth. Rather, it opens up a myriad of hermeneutic possibilities as to how subjects can be interpreted and deconstructed to unveil ideological assumptions, contradictions and limitations. I am captivated by how meaning is formed, how subjects overlap and how texts are received throughout time. With literature in mind: by taking advantage of subjectivity, texts can be portrayed through numerous perspectives and presented through infinite styles. My creative vision stems from what cultural critic Kristeva has called ‘intertextuality’: how the meaning of a text is shaped by other texts. The interrelationship between reality and texts demonstrates a symbiotic connection where literary representations are informed and transformed by daily life experiences and vice versa. My passion for teaching stems from the desire to develop and perceive texts through various perspectives, not only through the simple narration of texts but also the hyperbolising of texts to engage students and readers alike.
