British/South African. Citizen. Returned to Uk after extensive teaching experience in South Africa. I am passionate about encouraging young people to become excited about the sciences, and I enjoy finding new ways to make more difficult concepts clear, using constructivist principles. I enjoy the challenge of the digital age and embrace the technology available to use in education, especially iPads, iTunesU and Smart boards.
I have taught from Grade 7 (Year 8) to A level, and have worked in INSET, as well as lecturing teachers doing a re-skilling degree. My nearly 40 years experience covers Natural science, pure Biology and Physical science (covering both Physics and Chemistry) . For the past 17 years I have taught at a private school under the Independent Examining Board (IEB) in South Africa, and my pupils have performed at a high level in the external exams, going on to excel in the fields of Medicine , Engineering etc. I was appointed as a marker of the external exams for both Physics (9 years) and Chemistry (3 years) under the IEB, having been a Biology marker and Senior Biology marker for the National Education department.
