Hello! I’m Jessica, and I genuinely believe that every student can be successful in maths with the right support, encouragement and teaching. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing students who once believed they “weren’t good at maths” grow into confident learners who tackle challenging problems with resilience and pride.
My own journey into teaching has given me a real appreciation for the importance of education. I completed my Mathematics degree as a mature student while balancing work and family life, an experience that strengthened my resilience, organisation and belief that learning is a lifelong process. It also helps me relate to students who may lack confidence or feel that success is out of reach.
Outside of tutoring, I work full-time in a secondary school as Second in Faculty, where I enjoy developing curriculum resources, supporting colleagues and continually improving the learning experience for students. I am passionate about making mathematics accessible, relevant and enjoyable, rather than something to be feared.
My lessons are calm, supportive and encouraging. I take time to understand how each student learns best and adapt my teaching accordingly. I celebrate progress, however small, because confidence grows through success. I believe students learn most effectively when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves without fear of getting things wrong.
Parents often tell me they appreciate my professionalism, communication and commitment to helping their child succeed. I provide regular updates on progress and work closely with families to ensure students remain motivated and focused on their goals.

I have over seven years of experience working with young people in mathematics education and currently work as Second in Faculty for Mathematics in a secondary school. Before qualifying as a teacher, I worked as a specialist Numeracy Teaching Assistant, providing targeted mathematics and numeracy intervention, particularly for students with SEND and those working below age-related expectations.
Since qualifying, I have taught Mathematics across KS3 and KS4, including both Foundation and Higher GCSE. I have experience supporting students across the full ability range: from learners who have significant gaps in their mathematical knowledge or lack confidence, through to high-attaining students targeting Grades 7–9.
My experience extends beyond classroom teaching. I have developed and re-sequenced mathematics curricula, created targeted GCSE intervention programmes, analysed assessment data to identify learning gaps and produced resources designed to improve student outcomes. I have also supported students preparing for GCSE examinations through targeted revision, past-paper practice and explicit teaching of exam technique.
Alongside my school-based experience, I provide online tutoring tailored to the individual learner. I use initial assessment and ongoing questioning to identify gaps before creating a structured programme of study. Lessons include clear explanations, guided and independent practice, retrieval, exam-style questions and regular feedback.
I also have extensive experience supporting SEND learners and understand the importance of adapting pace, explanations, resources and lesson structure to the individual rather than expecting every student to learn mathematics in the same way.
I am a fully qualified secondary Mathematics teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), awarded in 2022. I hold a First-Class Honours degree in Mathematics from The Open University and completed my Secondary PGCE at Leeds Beckett University.
Alongside my teaching qualifications, I am an experienced Edexcel GCSE Mathematics examiner. This gives me valuable first-hand knowledge of the examination process, including how mark schemes are applied, where students commonly lose marks and what is required to access the higher levels of GCSE questions.
My professional development has included extensive work in mathematics curriculum design, assessment, intervention and supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). My background as a specialist Numeracy Teaching Assistant before qualifying as a teacher has also given me a strong foundation in adapting mathematical teaching for students who require additional support.
My qualifications and ongoing classroom and examining experience mean that my tutoring combines strong subject knowledge with current knowledge of the curriculum, assessment requirements and effective teaching practice.

She had never been a fan of maths and struggled with it, getting below a grade 4 in her mocks. The difference in her understanding and confidence was amazing. She went on to achieve the pass she needed in her actual GCSE and secured her college place without having to worry about a resit!
