My background

I was born in London to Irish parents in 1969. I went to school in Harrow in North London and was almost always to be found playing football, or reading about History, mainly the Second World War. As History was and still is my passion I then decided to study History with Politics at Manchester Metropolitan University. After University and having worked to save money I set off on a backpacking trip that took me to South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. I love travelling, so have tried to visit as many countries as possible over the years. I then worked in the hotel industry for 4 years, before moving to Spain in 2002, where I did a variety of jobs, including selling property for 3 years. In 2008 I started doing what my mother had been telling me to do since I was 21, I became a teacher. and I have to say she was right, because I really enjoy it. I am married to a Spanish national and have two boys, one 13 and the other 8. I love to cook, read, watch films and documentaries, do fitness, play padel and socialise with friends.

Experience

I have been teaching since 2008. I started teaching English to adults here in Spain, individually and in groups for an English academy. I then worked in a British school teaching one to one classes to students aged 11-16. After completing a postgrad teaching qualification, I started teaching History in my present school, El Plantio ISV in Valencia, Spain, which is a British school. I have been teaching KS3 History to years 7-9, Cambridge IGCSE (20th Century option) and the IB for 10 years. I teach the 20th century option in IGCSE and Nazi Germany. At IB I teach, or have taught Causes and Effects of War, Nazi Germany, Mao's China and the Cold War. I have been an IB examiner and on occasions Team Leader for Paper 2 since 2012, so have also marked essays on many other topics, including for example Peron, Mussolini, among many other leaders and topics. This year I marked Extended Essays for the IB.
