My background

My name is Rose Unwin and I have worked as a teacher in a primary school for five years. I have a passion for inspiring young minds, delivering exciting lessons and nurturing a positive mindset in young people. I teach the Primary National Curriculum but specialise in the English language.

Experience

I believe that a desire to teach, enthusiasm and dedication are three key elements to teaching. Without these, it is difficult to inspire pupils to learn. Without that, teaching becomes lecturing, and lessons become a battle. I have been lucky enough to have been taught by some truly inspirational teachers and am well-aware of the effect they have had on my life and the choices I have made subsequently. Without them, I would not be where I am today; inspiring and teaching my own students. My own passion for working with young children extends from my desire to emulate these role models and perform the same inspirational function in the lives of my students.
After spending my last placement at Bolsover CE Junior school, I was asked to apply for a job and was fortunate enough to be placed in Y6 for my NQT year. I have been dedicated in the planning and delivering of a creative curriculum during my two years and seven months of teaching. My resourcing has been commented on as ‘high quality’ which is all aimed at inspiring, motivating and creating a learning culture that can instil a ‘love of learning’. My team skills have also developed over this past year as I have shared my planning and resourcing with other staff members. I have regularly asked other colleagues for their advice, ideas and opinions and feel that this approach has assisted my work relationship with all members of staff.
In order to assess my children’s progress, every half-term I have evaluated their tests and used this to inform the following term’s planning. This has been tremendously beneficial to my class as my teaching has been tailored to their needs and weaknesses; as it should be. I feel I have developed a ‘bespoke’ learning environment for them. I have been assessing their starting points for each subject area to enable a correct pitching of the following lesson. This has also been positively commented on during observations.
I strongly feel that the most important part of teaching is your relationship with your students. I had had the chance of teaching challenging, hard-to-reach children in the last couple of years, and taken great pleasure in changing their outlook on school life. With care, attention, love and dedication, these students have left our school with positive memories and a good footing for their future. I believe that teachers who ove teaching, teach children who love learning.
