This is one of my key strengths that I want to further develop in teaching students after achieving grade A in GCSE mathematics.

My background

I am currently studying BA International Tourism Business Management at University College Birmingham (UCB) after obtaining a double distinction award in a 2-year BTEC level 3 qualification at Bournville College. Gaining work experience with six companies and pursuing a placement at Marriott Forest of Arden also enhanced my communication and teamwork skills in interacting with customers, since I am aware that I must come face to face with a vast variety of customers with different wants, needs and demands. In addition to my industrial experience, I actively participated in a large range of extra-curricular activities, including NCS The Challenge, three University Fellowships organized by my Chinese church and societies at University College Birmingham.

Experience

Barnardo’s Charity Shop Assistant (April 2016 - September 2017)
- Used my problem-solving skills to organize books, CDs and DVDs
- Used my mathematical and technical skills to distribute out-of-date products and organize and record unusable donations

- Marking students’ work enhanced my critical thinking skills
- Used my flexibility and emotional intelligence to adapt my support to each student
- Used my social and communication skills for direct marketing to the public

Labour Party Volunteer (May - July 2017)
- This particular volunteering opportunity helped me develop my social and communication skills as it involved campaigning, door-to-door sales, contacting members of the public via telephone .etc.

National Citizen Service The Challenge Associate Mentor (June - July 2016)
- Required organisational and time management skills to attend multiple meetings
- Utilized communication, time management and project management to support my chosen team to complete their projects.
- Making sure the team were following instructions developed my confidence to manage teams and heightened my awareness of clear boundaries

Barber Institute of Fine Arts (July 2013)
- Had to be organized to complete administrative tasks such as counting stock and preparing materials
- Utilized my creativity to support the teacher with large groups and creating artwork

Marriott Forest of Arden Cast Iron Restaurant Associate (placement year from June 2019 to March 2020)
- Flexible to take the role of Greeter, including welcoming guests, taking room numbers, assigning tables and informing them of the amenities within the restaurant.
- Daily pre-service preparation, requiring the taking of orders in advance to ensure no service delays.
- Setting up lunch and dinner buffets efficiently.
- Providing excellent customer service, listening and answering guest queries and giving recommendations.
I always observe the good practices of my Supervisor and my co-workers, including how to handle customers complaints and how to monitor customers’ feedback in the workplace.
