My background

Hello, my name is Gavin. I graduated the University of Bath with a first class masters degree in Mathematics. I qualified as a teacher of Maths (PGCE) in 2016 at Bristol University and taught in a school nearby after that. I have experience teaching all levels of students between the ages of 11 to 18 and am familiar with the current GCSE (1-9) and A level syllabuses. I am keen to show students the reasons why things work so that they can gain an intuition for solving problems rather than to just remember a process.

Experience

I have been a qualified teacher of maths since 2016 and have taught in a secondary school with a sixth form, teaching KS3 and GCSE maths, A level maths and some topics of A level further maths. I have also tutored students privately and have worked with students for whom English is an additional language during a summer camp for teenagers whose aim was to learn the English language in an academic environment.

Having classroom experience has taught me where misconceptions occur and how to overcome them using a number of methods so that students can learn the best way for them. I believe that 1 to 1 support can be invaluable for removing boundaries to aid understanding both in and out of the classroom.
