My background

Hi!, I am Diana, A medical genetics Bsc student at the university of Sheffield. I am half Russian half Syrian. Lived in Dubai for 7 years and now it's my second year in the UK. I speak 3 languages and I love volunteering and helping others. I enjoy teaching and making things easier for others. I have a huge background in science and can teach all ages up to A level with Biology and Chemistry. I can also teach all levels Arabic language.

Experience


Medical/Healthcare Experience:
Medical work experience - Premed projects London 7th -20th July 2019
? Learnt about healthcare by spending time with doctors/ healthcare professionals observing their work and participated in many medical related activities like patient history taking, with students from all over the world and became first aid qualified.
Medical Internship – Rashid hospital Dubai- Dubai health Authority Feb- 2017
? Completed 75 hours in the hospital. Provided assistance in various wards while worked alongside doctors with their patients. General Amin work associated with systems dedicated to hospitals. Recorded patients data plus problem solved different cases associated with the hospital. Accomplished new skills like IT and dealing with patients.
Volunteering experiences and Skills: Successfully managed my time to combine study with various volunteering roles including:
? Sheffcare enriching lives (2019) Spent 2 hours per week alongside with my university time communicated and sat activities to help old people with dementia get engaged and more active. This built my time management, professionalism and communication skills
? Whirlow farm Sheffield (2019) – Few hours weekly, led group tours up to 30 people in the farm, explaining about animals and answering questions from children & adults.
? Support dogs Sheffield (2019)- Helped with team to promote the charity though setting up events and communicating with variety of community members.
? Other volunteering experiences at (2017) : Fundraised at Sci-Fest Dubai- Educated children at Al-Takatuf charity Dubai, organized a charity event at DIS Dubai and have worked 4 hours weekly during my school time to assist children with reading and maths.

Extra-Activities:
? Wilderness medicine society member at the University of Sheffield 2019- worked with a team of medical students solving medical related scenarios in the wild by applying first aid skills.
? Abstract art: Painted then sold my art and donated the money to cancer charities.
? Online courses at Open University, Futurelearn and LinkedIn (2017-2019): Enjoyed learning online about topics that interested me. Completed the following short courses Gene testing, Nutrition, Lab safety, Histology, gene therapy, strategic thinking, and genetic counselling.
? Global future program at Singularity University -10 weeks – (2017) educated me towards problems associated with the future and the global challenges that humans might face.
Employability:
? International ambassador- The University of Sheffield 2019-Ongoing
Made international calls to UAE and Russia, utilised my multilingual skills to persuasively communicate and provide guidance with the application process for the new applicants. Through this role, I expanded my public speaking skills.
? MBB ambassador -The University of Sheffield- 2019 On-going
On Open days, assisted first year students with laboratory sessions designed to introduce them to the course and to some laboratory techniques/equipment.

Other work experience:
? Private tutor for Arabic Language 2017-2019- Part time job. Taught non-Arabic speakers of different ages, levels and nationalities. By this I enhanced my mind approaching and flexibility skills.
? Customer assistant- Rainbow Stationery Dubai – 2015. Worked on the shop floor serving customers and operating various stationery machines. This have built my customer communication skills where I had to deal with customers of different cultures and personalities.
Extras:
? First Aid qualified from (the Irish red cross and ERC).
? Certified for completing the course on Strategic thinking on Linked in.
? Shadowed Researchers in Perak’s Laboratories at the University of Sheffield and provided assistance in various laboratory projects outside my lecture hours.
? Participated in delivering campus tours for newly arrived students at the university of Sheffield.

Education and Qualification:
2nd Year Medical Genetics BSC- The University of Sheffield 2018-2020
Transferable skills: Developed a wide range of transferable skills such as time management, organization, leadership through managing my studies and volunteer work. I have also gained some It skills on Microsoft office programmes. Through essay writing and oral presentations I have improved my written communication skills with public speaking.
