I have been an instrumental/vocal teacher for more than 32 years, now looking to move more into online work. I have taught singing, flute, and recorder up to grade 8, and also music theory. I have worked for two music services over this time, also taking on roles as Choirs director, joint concert organiser, County Choirs and Voice coordinator and Deputy Head of a Music Centre. I have dealt with pupils ranging in age from 8 to 80, and also have done a lot of work towards GCSE , A Level Music, and Performing Arts exam courses, as well as preparing pupils for performance exams via such boards as The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London College of Music, and Trinity College Exams. I accompany my pupils whenever possible to a high standard (on piano) but am also adept in recording/arranging/adapting music via my mixer and microphone set up, and I now particularly enjoy organising materials for the few pupils I currently teach online.
I was employed by Surrey County Arts in September 1988 as a flute teacher which changed into singing teaching over time, and included some clarinet, recorder and saxophone teaching. During this time I taught in around 15 primary schools and 5 Secondary Schools, visiting them once a week to teach mostly individuals, and some small groups. I also directed an area children's choir called EMVCC, and formed a new Secondary Schools' Girls vocal group called 'Sirenity'. I also organised a joint schools choir event at Dorking Halls. Here I was also made Surrey County Voice Coordinator, County Choirs Coordinator and Deputy Head of the Elmbridge and Move Valley Music centre.
From September 2003 I was employed as a singing teacher for Hertfordshire Music Service. Here I have directed several school choirs, and helped with Performing Arts performances and exam courses, and school shows. I have also taught some flute, recorder and theory whilst here. I have also lead in the implementation of Pop and Music Theatre exam courses, presenting to other colleagues on two occasions.
Additionally, I have been Music Director for various amateur dramatic companies in Hertfordshire, including shows such as 'Happy Days', 'The Wedding Singer', 'American Idiot', 'Mack and Mabel' and 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'. I have also played in stage bands for shows in the area, woodwind and keyboard.
I now have a great interest in Virtual Reality and Education, specifically music education and how it is developing in these current times. I am particularly keen on developing online solutions.
