My background

I stopped teaching in schools to care for a poorly relative but since then have continued to teach, providing one to one to tuition in my home or the children’s home and most recently on-line. The opportunity to spend such dedicated time with individual children has proved to be beneficial for the children and personally very rewarding; it’s great to see the impact of support and encouragement on children’s confidence and progress.

I have lived in Yorkshire since completing my PGCE and in Huddersfield for 23 years. I live with my husband and have two children, one who is studying Psychology and Sports Science at Newcastle University and a 17 year old who is completing her A Levels and beginning to think her about her transition to university.

Experience

I graduated with a 2:1 from Liverpool University with a degree in Economics and Social History in 1991 before going on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate of Education at Leeds University. Since then I have taught in primary schools, in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, for over 20 years, and in that time have had particular responsibilities for coordinating key stage 1 provision and for children with special needs; teaching children with special needs remains a passion of mine.
