My background

I am an experienced and dedicated tutor, having worked with young people for the last three years. I find tutoring a very rewarding job and enjoy seeing how proud students are with the progress they make from tutoring. Having worked extensively with autistic children, as well as a range of other abilities, I know the difference that can be made by tutors who are engaged and care about the young people they work with.

I achieved a first class degree from Oxford University. I also received the best dissertation in the year for my Masters thesis in Anthropology at the University of Sussex. As such, I can teach up to a very high level for English. However, due to my Masters I am also a specialist in Anthropology and Sociology, and very capable at teaching a wide variety of humanities subjects, including History of Art, History and Philosophy. I can also offer Maths and Science tuition up to high school level. As an Oxford graduate I can offer guidance on passing Oxbridge entrance exams and offer general interview practice.

I have a current and enhanced DBS check for the peace of mind of parents, also available on request.

I am a warm and lively person and will aim to make the sessions as fun as possible! My teaching style is: patient, understanding, relaxed, interactive, theme-based, and multi-disciplinary. Use of past papers, both Edexcel and AQA new and old specifications, analysis, evaluation, deconstruction of exam and essay questions, concepts, and requirements. Development of essay and exam structure. I pay particular attention to a student's self-confidence and self-expression, which often serve as catalysts for enhanced self-belief and, hence, success.

Experience

I have teaching experience over the last three years in schools, online, and as a private tutor. I have worked across a range of subjects, although primarily English, which is my specialty, and Maths. I have worked as a one-to-one tutor, but also within classrooms. Recently I was 'Head of Academic Coordination' for an organisation working with students in China, which involved directing the educational programme for these students and managing other tutors. As a result of this experience I am proficient at planning resources for a broad range of abilities - from students that are really struggling to young people with learning difficulties to those who are at the top of the class. Having excelled during my degrees and as I am currently applying for a phD in English, I am the perfect tutor to push students to the next level and give them the confidence to excel.
