My background

Hi. My name is Phil Stott and I am passionate about History. I have been teaching the subject at a variety of levels for over 25 years and feel that I have a wide variety of knowledge to impart. I understand that History is more than a series of dates and names and am able to discuss the skills required to achieve at a high level in the subject. I also believe that I have knowledge to make learning History enjoyable and rewarding, rather than simply an exercise in reading dry textbooks.

Experience

I have taught in secondary schools in the UK for over 25 years. During this time I lead a successful History and Politics department for 15 years. I am experienced in teaching the age range 11-18, and as a consequence am knowledgeable about a very wide range of specialist areas, including Russian history, the Tudors and a large amount of modern history. This teaching has involved essay writing and source analysis skills. I have taught A level, GCSE, IGCSE and IB courses. I am also an experienced examination marker with the OCR and AQA examination boards, so am aware of what is required of students at examination level.
