Coming from a position where I didn't regard myself as an academically gifted person. I've proved to myself and many people around me that hard work does pay off. I wasn't exceptionally well and did not always get the top grades but having a determined and motivated character allowed me to flourish with knowledge. I'd like to think of myself as a positive person who tried to see the best of ugly situations. It really comes in handy when you're exposed to difficult concepts that make it tempting to give up. I'd like to think that I'm an understanding person who acknowledges that there are sides to every single stories and perspective which makes it very easy for me to connect with people and help them
I tutored a year 11 maths class. GCSE mathematics focuses a lot on problem-solving type questions. I was able to help students when challenged with a question that seems difficult yet the knowledge needed to solve the question was actually quite simple. Understanding the students thought processes and working with how they can apply their knowledge in order to solve the questions as well as teaching them new topics seemed to effectively not only improve their results but also their attitude to the subject itself.
