I am a PGCE qualified teacher since 1997. For the last 24 years, I have been a secondary and a primary school teacher in Bristol and surrounding areas.
I have been a Modern Foreign Languages specialist, in French and Spanish. I have taught Modern Foreign Languages at Key Stages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in various schools in Bristol.
In September 2005, after a year’s conversion course at Bath Spa University, I was appointed as French teacher and coordinator at Elmlea Junior where I worked for 3 years and at Southville Primary, on a fixed term contract for 2 years.
Since 2008, I have worked at West Town Lane Academy as French then Spanish specialist teacher and coordinator on a part time basis.
In 2017, I was also appointed as part time Modern Foreign Languages teacher and coordinator at Wicklea Academy Primary.
Since 2019, I have been a volunteer trustee at St George’s Bristol, Great George Street, Bristol.
Since 2019, I have been member of:
• The One Bristol Curriculum project which sees local arts practitioners and historians working together with schools and teachers to create a curriculum that integrates the full history of Bristol and the UK.
• The Bristol Global Majority Teacher's Network, which provides networking opportunities support and guidance to Global Majority Teachers in Bristol and surrounding areas.
Since 2019, I am a member of the Bristol Global Majority Teacher's Network, which provides networking opportunities support and guidance to Global Majority Teachers in Bristol and surrounding areas.
Since 2019, I developed SEN teaching skills by helping and supporting KS1 and 2 children while working through tutoring agency Bristol Tuition.
From 2015 to 2018, I hosted a regular weekly World music radio show on local community radio Passion Radio Bristol.com, The Métisse Sessions.
In 2017, I collaborated in creating a fortnightly music, chat and news podcast with a potent mix of contemporary music, & discussion musical podcast.
Since 2009, I have been regularly playing at WOMAD UK, Charlton Park.
In 2019, I headlined WOMAD Chile, in Santiago.
In 2010, after attending inductions courses via my supply agency, I started undertaking the role of tutor in 1-to-1 tuition in Literacy and Numeracy for Key Stage 2 pupils. I also taught Year 5 and Year 6 classes at Whitehall Primary school on a fixed term contract.
In 2011, at May Park primary school, as well as tutoring for Key Stage 1 and 2, I was team-teaching support with Year 6 classes. These Year 6 classes went to achieve very positive SATs results compared to previous years.
In other schools I worked for, I organised assemblies on the topic of the European Day of Languages and helped on whole school international focus events. At Elmlea Junior School, in my role as Primary Languages coordinator, I helped the school gaining the Intermediate Level of the British Council’s International School Award.
At West Town Lane Academy , for 4 years – from 2009-2013, and at Merchants ‘Academy Primary, in June 2016, I organised an international cultural awareness event based on the French yearly “Fête de la Musique” (Music Day) event which celebrates cultural differences through music and dance.
In 2011 and 2016, I successfully managed to involve well-established artists and musicians from Bristol and beyond to deliver their expert musical knowledge in activities incorporating languages, singing, dancing and world music to whole Key Stage 2 classes. Those activities were then showcased to the whole school in a finale afternoon special assembly.
I have also extra-curricular interests: with world music interests and skills, I have run charity fundraising events for the V-Day UK, which was an international fundraising campaign to end violence against women and children, and the Hodgkin Scholarship, which aims to offer students from developing countries a year scholarship at Bristol University.
At Southville Primary school, I played for its summer Fayre and school disco. May Park Primary also asked me to be part of the organisation of Year 6 end of year school disco.
I am an experience teacher in both primary and secondary sectors. In primary, I have undertaken roles as Primary Languages teacher (French and Spanish) and coordinator, PPA teacher and 1-to-1 tutor in English and Maths at Key Stage 1 and 2.
I am naturally sociable person, passionate in making language learning fun. Based on years of professional and life experience, I like to empower multilingualism in my teaching. As learning another language has been scientifically and medically proven to have beneficial impact on personal well-being and contribute in helping cerebral fitness, I take teaching Modern Foreign Languages seriously and like to share my passion to students.
Furthermore I am incline to support the fact that learning another language helps learners to understand cultural differences and provides opportunities in celebrating the richness of the multi-cultural and diverse communities in the 21st Century.
I am a firm believer in using music, dance and drama in teaching as it has a very positive impact in the learning of students. Adding to my extensive experience in teaching Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish) from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 5, I enjoy promoting creativity in education in my day-to-day teaching, especially using music, dance and art to inspire children’s/students’ learning of languages.
Ideally, I would wish for a much more cross-curricular use of language learning as, I believe it would promote a more positive understanding and respectfulness of the multicultural generation of the future.
I therefore think that the Art helps students enhance their creative abilities.
Finally, as I am a social being, music lover and multilingual myself, I like to teamwork and to share expertise, rediscover or learn new professional skills with colleagues and teach and share with students.
