I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2013 with an undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology, and completed my Primary PGCE (Maths Specialism) at UCL in 2016. I am hard working, positive and committed to delivering the highest standard of teaching I can.
I value an understanding of why and how maths works, not just following and memorising procedures. I like to use a range of visual representations and discussions of problems, alongside traditional `sums`. This supports students to build a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts.
As a tutor I aim to provide lessons that are as pupil-centred as possible. This means meeting the tutee at their current level of understanding, building on their existing knowledge and guiding them to work through tasks themselves. I want my students to develop the ability to think independently rather than just accept an enforced way of thinking.
I also believe that it is very important for the tutor-tutee relationship to be friendly and open. In order for tutoring sessions to be effective, the tutee should always feel able to be honest about what they do and don`t understand. I aim to encourage this by creating a friendly, comfortable environment in which questions are encouraged, and the tutee is very welcome to contest anything they don`t agree with!I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2013 with an undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology, and completed my Primary PGCE (Maths Specialism) at UCL in 2016.
