Dear Sir/Madam,
I am very keen to be considered for online tutoring for your child. I would like to pursue my aim of providing creative, independent and collaborative learning for your child, which gives a foundation on which your child can build, to become a life-long learner and a responsible citizen.
Personal experience has led me to believe that children learn best when they participate actively in the learning process. They discover things through direct experience with people, objects events and ideas. The plan, do, review process I use, is key to the child initiated and teacher facilitated learning which enables children to reach their true potential. I provide materials, plan activities and explore with the children in ways that support and challenge their thinking. Activities are both child initiated, built upon their natural curiosity and developmentally appropriate, matched to children’s current and emerging abilities. Science is my area of specialism so I optimise all opportunities for exploration, observation and discovery.
I utilise a range of strategies in order to inspire, stimulate interest and enthusiasm from pupils when introducing new concepts. Objectives need to be made clear and accessible, class sharing of ideas, in order to optimise potential, instils a sense of ownership which ultimately leads to achievement.
I strongly believe that if individuals are to reach their full potential, they need to understand what is expected of them and what the next stages of development will consist of. Carefully, differentiated activities are essential to enable learning for all abilities, alongside planning that captures interest and allows for kinaesthetic, visual and auditory learners to achieve. I have found that rigorous use of Assessment for Learning with the children during the lesson, helps signpost them to their personal targets as well as informs my planning for the next lesson.
My passion is science and the great outdoors and I am excited to find out about the countries my students would be located in, which would enable me to capitalise on this aspect of the curriculum to the children’s advantage. My recent life experiences have made me appreciate the wonderful world in which we live and all it has to offer. I have been privileged to have been able to compare two careers and as such realise that my skills lie in giving children the opportunities and experiences they need to facilitate their learning and help them grow into life-long learners.
As a creative person, I am always thinking of new ways to teach subjects which will inspire motivate and enthuse the pupils in my class. I utilise all areas of the classroom to create interactive displays which either develop an enquiring mind or consolidate learning and share achievement and progress.
Using ‘mantle of the expert’ has enabled me to create plans with the children which involved several areas of the curriculum taking us on a very memorable learning journey, both for the children and the teachers! Our topic was London’s Burning. The hook was a wooden box which had been unearthed in our twinned school in London. Inside, port, cheese and part of Samuel Pepys diary sparked a learning journey which started in history, went on to DT making puppets for the ‘story’ and ICT filming the puppet show, written by the children, set to music and sung to an audience for parents assembly. A very busy term, packed with opportunities for learning. I am certain that by teaching holistically, children develop a love of learning and reach their true potential.
In support of my application, I can offer reliability, coupled with a sense of humour, professional commitment and strong family support to fulfil the role of online tutor for your child.
