My background

I am a fully experienced and qualified ex-grammar school Teacher of English and am available for private tuition, currently online.
I passionately believe every child, with tailored tutoring, can achieve their potential and my teaching career has reflected this philosophy. My enthusiasm for both my subject and for working with children and young people fuels my enjoyment and love of teaching. It is especially rewarding to be part of the learning process and to be involved in the student`s progress.
As a tutor, I would establish a programme of learning and assessment that matches the student`s learning style and provides ample opportunity for them to make consistent progress, develop confidence and enjoy the lessons. I firmly believe that encouraging independent learning skills are key to success.

Experience

I am fully qualified with fifteen years teaching experience in a range of schools, including comprehensive and latterly Grammar school education.

As Head of Key Stage 3 English, I was responsible for teaching a Fast Track English group for exceptionally able pupils. I have also taught less able students and helped them to make progress. In my recent role, I was responsible for delivering Intervention lessons to small groups and on a one to one basis.

I have a range of resources which I have developed and written for all stages of learning from Year 6 upwards. This includes developing a yearly programme of learning for Years 7-9 at secondary and writing schemes of work, choosing literature and material that will help the students to achieve and writing schemes of work and resources for GCSE and A Level English Literature.

In addition, my enthusiasm for teaching and for English as a subject, led me to start a very popular Writing club for students which was extremely well attended. I have also been involved in assisting with the school plays editing and organised the school`s yearly publication.
