I was a very successful college lecturer for over 23 years. I taught four different subjects at A Level: Sociology; Philosophy; Film Studies and Media Studies. Students I taught achieved outstand results in all four subjects and I received letters of commendation from three different exam boards for the quality of students work in exams and coursework. Several students were awarded prizes for their work. I was also an accomplished tutor. I was given grades 1 and 2 when observed. I was also the IT Champion for my department, responsible for assisting both students and colleagues in developing IT skills. I have had several articles published in Sociology Review outlining innovative teaching techniques.
I was a college lecturer. The role included and in-depth subject knowledge and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from very different and diverse backgrounds. I delivered lectures, and interactive class room activities that involved working in groups, pairs and individually.
I was also a tutor for students planning to go to University. This included providing pastoral support and an advisory role. It was essential to keep up to date with my subject developments. I was responsible for supervising and marking student coursework and setting and marking exams.
It was also necessary to carry out administrative tasks related to the department and participate in staff training activities. I was the IT Champion for my department, providing both staff and students with training and guidance in the use of IT, software packages, and utilising the Internet and virtual learning systems.
