My background

I am a 20-year-old student studying a bachelor's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Undertaking Criminology as a degree has allowed me to learn about the notion of crime and the media and has developed my interest in the media's use of language and English linguistics. As well as my interest in crime, I also really enjoy English as a subject. I am a hard-working, resilient, friendly individual with a passion for the English language. I regard myself as an analytical person, and I enjoy analysing the English language and English Literature, whether it be a poem, a text from a novel, or media language. Some of my favorite novels and literary classics are The Great Gatsby, Lord of The Flies, The Catcher in The Rye and Of Mice and Men. I also really enjoy reading classic novels, plays, contemporary and other genres, as I thoroughly love the feeling of diving into a book, which transports me away from my reality. I am passionate to support and help children with English; as a dyslexic myself, I can understand how difficult it is to understand and study English as a subject. Providing support to children who may need it is a happy and rewarding feeling. I have achieved a grade B in both English language and Literature in my GCSE'S, and I achieved a B in English Literature at A Levels. I can support KS2 and KS3 students, but my skills and experience would be better utilized in teaching KS3 students as I have more of an understanding of the curriculum at this level.

Experience

I have work experience teaching children English from the ages of 5-14 years of age, as well as personal experience teaching my siblings English at home. To add, I assist my parents with reading, writing and speaking as English is not their native language. For example, I utilize my communication skills, written skills and comprehension skills when helping them with daily responsibilities. My personal and professional experience has sparked a genuine interest in me to help and support others who may struggle with English - or who need some extra support in their studies or schoolwork. I have also worked as a nursery worker, working with babies and toddlers. This experience has increased a range of skills required to work with children such as verbal and interpersonal communication- interacting with both parents and children, organisation skills, multi-tasking, time management, and working under pressure a lot of the time. I believe that the development of these skills in a nursery setting has also allowed me to apply them to real-life situations and can also be translated into other fields that require working with children, such as tutoring. Although tutoring will be conducted online, I know that I can demonstrate my skill set effectively and confidently through a screen.

Qualifications

I have achieved 10 GCSE'S, grade A*- C's, grades B-C at A-Levels. In University, I have mostly achieved 2.1's in my academic essays.
