I have recently completed my PGCE, following a 23 year career spent in a variety of roles in industry. I specialise in Maths, having initially graduated as an Engineer, and then spent time in Commercial and Management roles. I like to think that this experience helps me bring Maths to life by using my range of experiences to bring "real life context" to the learning - from explaining negative numbers to primary school children by using the goal difference statistics in the football league table to explaining vectors to GCSE level students by pretending to be an airline pilot.

My formal PGCE training is with the primary age group (5-11), however in my career in industry I was heavily involved in the training of graduate trainees and apprentices (16+), and in voluntary organisations I have worked with children of all ages. I am new to tutoring, and have no experience of teaching in a school setting since I gained Qualified Teacher Status in July 2019, however I believe this is an advantage as I am not constrained by traditional teaching styles, and will not simply regurgitate to your child the same teaching materials that have failed them in mainstream school.
